Paris-Roubaix

Yesterday I watched the Paris – Roubaix Film by the Rock’n'Roll Cycling Team from France. It documents the journey of 12 fixed gear riders covering the classic route on narrow country lanes as well as mile after mile of cobbled tracks.

It’s often regarded by professionals as a joke because of its difficulty, however watching this reminded me of the general feel of riding through spring. More often than not the weather’s questionnable, and after a winter of being battered by bad weather it’s easy to just think “I’ll leave it ’till tomorrow, the weather should clear up by then”. I’ve caught myself thinking this recently so I’ve made an extra effort to get out riding, whether it’s alone or in a group, rain or shine.

ZTRN's Affinity Lo-Pro

In an endless search for a good, affordable lo-pro/pursuit frameset, I’ve come across lots of different builds from lots of different manufacturers.

Although most currently on the market that are advertised as lo-pros actually aren’t (the whole sloping top-tube thing started when people decided to run smaller front wheels) there’s something about them that I really like.

The Cinelli MASH Histogram, Leader Kagero and D.A.M.P. Earbeard are all examples of frames currently being produced and are what I’m talking about.

Recently we’ve had a whole load of reader’s bike submissions. Thank you to everyone who has submitted them to us. We love looking at all the different types of bikes people are riding who read our blog.

Please keep sending them in to us… they’ll all go onto the site. We’re currently looking at a better way of displaying them so that it’s easier to browse.

Head on over to the Bikes page to have a look. You can click through to see all of the new ones.

Levi Commuter range at Scene

If you’ve not seen or heard about these then i don’t know where you’ve been. There’s been a lot of opinions flying around all over the internet about them but i personally love them, because for once, i’ve found a pair of jeans that actually fit me well for riding in. Not too skinny and not too baggy, just perfectly in the middle. Not to mention all the other features they’ve got on them designed for cycling.

Our mates over at Scene in Preston have got them in stock… head on over and grab a pair, or a jacket or a shirt or all of the range! It’s definitely worth it!

Obree's Fast Bike

If you cast your mind back, a few of us went over to The Green Jersey bike shop in Clitheroe to meet the legend that is Graeme Obree. Whilst we were there he was telling us about his new project which was to build a bike that he could use to attempt the ‘Human Powered Land Speed Record’ sometime later this year over in Nevada, USA.

“Obree’s new machine is being assembled at his one-bedroom flat in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, in the kitchen which doubles as his workshop. He has already scavenged parts for the machine’s shoulder rests from an old saucepan.”

Blinksteady Lights

The Blink/Steady light is a kickstarter project, brainchild of industrial designer Benjamin Cohen. It’s a solid, aluminium-bodied product that is perfectly machined to fit onto your seatpost. It has two modes: blink, and steady.

Cannondale Track

I wonder if i’ll ever own one of these frames in my size? Probably not due to the amount of people who are also hunting high and low for one. This one (from what i can guess) is owned by Patrick from Pedal Consumption and is around the right size for me from what i can imagine.

Andy from Tokyo Fixed Gear also has a Cannondale Track frame but it is quite literally as tall as me! Click through to see it and compare the sizes.

TFG S1

You might remember a little while back when i posted up some of the new 2012 Tokyo Fixed Gear frames?

I also posted up a DART build the other week and now i’ve spotted this photo of a new 2012 S1 build over on the Tokyo Fixed Gear flickr page yesterday.

This photo was taken at The Hunt Crit Race that went down on the weekend by Greg Falski. I’ll post up some links to some photo’s and video’s from The Hunt later on, there’s not much point in me just re-posting a load of stuff from The 5th Floor, when you can just go over there and read it yourself.

Bicycle Boxes from Gotham Cargo

Greek company Gotham Cargo have hand-made these wooden boxes for your bike and I have to admit, as somebody who never pays attention to cargo solutions that aren’t rucksacks, they are actually quite nice and seem to be really solid.

They’re secured with two aluminium rods between the basket and the axle of your front wheel, plus a bracket to the brake hole, so they definitely aren’t going to fall off – no flimsy cable ties or clamps!

Bamarang are currently stocking them in 6 different colourways but if you want one hurry! They’re on sale and there aren’t many left.
